Cold Chain, Storage and Stability: Keeping Research Peptides Intact

Research peptides are supplied lyophilised because the dry powder is stable and convenient to ship. Preserving that integrity in the lab comes down to a few principles.
Temperature
As a general guideline, lyophilised peptides are best kept cool, dark and dry, and frozen for long-term storage. They are stable at ambient temperature for the short windows involved in shipping, so cold-chain transport is not usually required.
Light and moisture
Prolonged exposure to light and moisture can degrade peptides. Keep vials sealed and protected until use.
Freeze-thaw cycles
Repeated freezing and thawing can degrade a reconstituted peptide. Aliquoting a solution into smaller portions avoids thawing the whole batch each time. See the glossary for definitions of aliquot and freeze-thaw.
